It seems that there is almost as much dispute over the name of The Mashiyach (Messiah) as the Name of . Yeshua, Yahshua, Yahoshua, Yehoshua, Yahushua and more recently Yahusha have all been proferred as the correct rendition of the name of The Mashiyach. Some attempt to resolve these disputes by simply saying and writing Y’shua, this however causes division with those who strongly feel that mankind has no right to shorten the Name of either The Father or The Son.
So how can we begin to resolve this issue? The Scripture at the top of the page tells us it is a ‘command’ to believe in ‘the Name’ of His Son.
Speaking of Mashiyach, Act 4:12 (below) tells us that there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we need to be saved.
Act 4:12 “And there is no deliverance in anyone else, for there is no other Name under the heaven given among men by which we need to be saved.”
It would seem then that having the precise correct rendition of this name is vitally important. But is that truly the case in terms of pronunciation? Now I know that the mere suggestion that it might be otherwise will throw some into a rage; I understand that and agree that we should do all in our power to get it right, but is there something of even more importance to understand here?
Let’s look at another Scripture Yoel 2:32 “And it shall be that everyone who calls on the Name of shall be delivered. For on Mount Tsiyon and in Yerushalayim there shall be an escape as has said, and among the survivors whom calls.
Act 2:21 ‘And it shall be that everyone who calls on the Name of shall be saved.
Rom 10:13 For “everyone who calls on the Name of shall be saved.” You will notice that Acts2:21 and Romans 10:13 have repeated Yo’el2:32, now these Scriptures tell us that everyone that calls on the name of will be saved; while Acts 4:12 that we read earlier seems to imply that it is the name of Mashiyach that we need in order to be saved. The name in Mat.1:21 Mat 1:21 “And she shall give birth to a Son, and you shall call His Name for He shall save His people from their sins.”
The name above in Mat.1:21 is recorded in the Greek transcript as follows from Strong’s Iēsous ee-ay-sooce'
Of Hebrew origin [H3091]; Jesus (that is, Jehoshua), the name of our Lord and two (three) other Israelites: - Jesus.
If we look up H3091 we find
H3091

yehôshua‛ yehôshua‛
yeh-ho-shoo'-ah, yeh-ho-shoo'-ah
From H3068 and H3467; Jehovah-saved; Jehoshua (that is, Joshua), the Jewish leader: - Jehoshua, Jehoshuah, Joshua. Compare H1954, H3442.
As we can see there are two Hebrew spellings given for this Name with the same pronunciation given for both. We are also told that the Mashiyach’s Name comes from H3068 which is and H3467 which is ‘Yasha’ A primitive root; properly to be open, wide or free, that is, (by implication) to be safe; causatively to free or succor: - X at all, avenging, defend, deliver (-er), help, preserve, rescue, be safe, bring (having) salvation, save (-iour), get victory.
We are also told by Strong’s to compare this name with H1954 ‘Hoshea’ which it is said to come from ‘Yasha’ and H3442 ‘Yeshua’ which is said to be for H3091 Yahushua.
So now we have gone it seems fairly much in a circle of definitions back to and it is easy to see why there are so many claimed versions of Mashiyach’s Name.
So if Acts 4:12 speaking in reference to Mashiyach Act 4:12 “And there is no deliverance in anyone else, for there is no other Name under the heaven given among men by which we need to be saved.” is referring to ‘what Mashiyach was called while on earth, how can we resolve the issue? And if we resolve the issue does Acts4:12 contradict Yo’el2:32 which is also quoted in Acts2:21 and Romans 10:13? Yo’el2:32 clearly states three times that everyone that calls on the name of will be saved.
To take the first question, we personally choose to call Mashiyach ‘Yahushua’, this is in keeping with Strong’s and the rendering of the tetragrammaton as Yahuwah. The second option that Strong’s gives for H3091 is by leaving out the second ‘waw’ this would give the Name ‘Yahusha’ which some use but we prefer ‘Yahushua’
Now to the larger question of whether Yo’el 2:32 and Acts4 :12 contradict? If not how does that apply. If you have not yet read our page Ha Shem we recommend that you do so now and then come back to this page.
Let’s take a close look at Acts 4:12“And there is no deliverance in anyone else, for there is no other Name under the heaven given among men by which we need to be saved.”
First thing we note is that there is ‘no deliverance in anyone else’, from this we understand that it is no point looking to your minister, rabbi, guru or anyone else born on this earth only in Mashiyach is there deliverance. Second we note that there is ‘ no other Name under heaven given among men ’ by which we need to be saved. Note “under heaven” this is not including any name in the Heavenly; Acts4:12 is talking soley of “Names on the earth given among men”
Let us now consider also what that word translated “name” is from strong’s we see it is G3686onoma on'-om-ah From a presumed derivative of the base of G1097 (compare G3685); a “name” (literally or figuratively), (authority, character): - called, (+ sur-) name (-d).
Just as we saw in the ‘Ha Shem’ study, with the word “Shem” the Greek Word ‘onomah’ means more than just what someone is called, it means character and authority also. Yahushua said, Yohanan5:43 “I have come in My Father’s Name and you do not receive Me, if another comes in his own name, him you would receive Was he talking simply of what He was “called”? We do not believe this is the case. While Mashiyach came with a Name that means “Yahuwah saves” and therefore contained “Yahu” so did many other Scriptural Names contain ”Yahu” and as we have seen this name
also belonged to the one usually referred to in English translations as Joshua. Yahushua was saying in Yohanan5:43 not that he came being called what his Father was called but that he came in His Father’s name, as in Having His Father’s Authority.
Yahushua was ‘sent’ by the Father Yohanan 5:37 “And the Father who sent Me, He bore witness of Me. You have neither heard His voice at any time, nor seen His form
If You send someone to do something for you, they go in your name that is they go with ‘your authority’ to do whatever it is you sent them to do.
John Evans Senior maybe a fine man with a good reputation and upstanding values, and he may have a son called John Evans. John Evans junior maybe of a completely different character and may even be scoundrel enough to use his Father’s good name for own advantage, if he thinks he can get away with it. Though he may claim to be doing something in his fathers name because they have the same name, he would not being doing it with His father’s authority. In fact he could bring his father’s name (character and reputation) into ill repute. On the other hand John Evans Senior may have another son called Fred Evans. Fred only has the Evans part of his father’s name but he is of the same character. So when John Evans wants a son to go do something for him on his behalf he sends Fred Evans who goes in His Fathers name, that is he goes with his fathers authority.
So when we read Act 4:12“And there is no deliverance in anyone else, for there is no other Name under the heaven given among men by which we need to be saved.” The “no other Name” is speaking of no other authority ever given among men living upon the earth by which we could be saved. Only Yahushua had the authority of Yahuwah to forgive sins, to impart the Ruach to promise salvation, only Yahushua could offer His life for our salvation. It is by him and through His shed blood that we are saved - we are saved by HIS LIFE, it is by His authority given Him by the Father that we can now be reconciled to the Father - through His shed blood not by what his earthly name was ‘called’ Rom 5:9 Much more then, having now been declared right by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. Rom 5:10 For if, being enemies, we were restored to favour with Elohim through the death of His Son, much more, having been restored to favour, we shall be saved by His life. Rom 5:11 And not only this, but we also exult in Elohim through our Master Messiah, through whom we have now received the restoration to favour. (see Yahuweh or Yahuwah? “HE IS LIFE”)
So when we read Acts 4:12 as ‘no other authority’ rather than ‘no other name’ the conflict with Yo’el 2:32; Acts2:21 and Romans10:13 simply dissapears and there is no conflict at all.
However there is something else to consider in regard to the Name of Mashiyach. While on earth Mashiyach had the name of Still we read in Hebrews the following Heb 1:1 Elohim, having of old spoken in many portions and many ways to the fathers by the prophets, Heb 1:2 has in these last days spoken to us by the Son, whom He has appointed heir of all, through whom also He made the ages Heb 1:3 who being the brightness of the esteem and the exact representation of His substance, and sustaining all by the word of His power, having made a cleansing of our sins through Himself, sat down at the right hand of the Greatness on high, Heb 1:4 having become so much better than the messengers, as He has inherited a more excellent Name than them. While it goes without saying, that Yahushua always had more authority than the messengers, Hebrews 1:4 “He has inherited a more excellent Name” does suggest that since He returned to the Father He has yet another Name. Known earlier as ‘the Word of Yahuwah’ we read in Yohanan1 Joh 1:14 And the Word became flesh and pitched His tent among us, and we saw His esteem, esteem as of an only brought-forth of a father, complete in favour and truth. At this time He became Ha Mashiyach, on return to sit at the righthand of His Father has he yet another Name? Some call Him Yahwehshua, others Yahuahshua and on it goes various combinations of and .Is that really what we should be considering? Let’s close this study with a few verses from Yermeyahu Jer 33:14 ‘See, the days are coming,’ declares , ‘when I shall establish the good word which I have promised to the house of Yisra’ĕl and to the house of Yehuḏah: Jer 33:15 ‘In those days and at that time I cause a Branch of righteousness to spring forth for Dawiḏ. And He shall do right-ruling and righteousness in the earth. Jer 33:16 ‘In those days Yehuḏah shall be saved, and Yerushalayim dwell in safety. And this is that which shall be proclaimed to her: ‘ our Righteousness.’
So if you ask us what Ha Mashiyach’s Name is; don’t be surprised if we reply,
“Yahuwah Tsidkenu” “ Yahuwah our Righteousness”
1Co 1:30 And of Him you are in Messiah , who became for us wisdom from Elohim, righteousness also, and set-apartness and redemption, 1Co 1:31 that, as it has been written, “He who boasts, let him boast in .”
